Services

My approach is informed by the relational psychodynamic/psychoanalytic stance.  As we consider current problems, we will also consider what it means to be in a body that contains many histories and how those histories are being interacted with in the present.

Individual therapy

  • Relationship Issues. Feelings of disconnection, communication issues, family transitions, perinatal & postpartum experiences, gestational & non-gestational experiences of parenting & impact of children on relationships & sexual intimacy.

  • Identity. Concerns related to sense of self, one’s experience of identity as it relates to professional identity, gender, sexuality & racial identity development, & parenthood.

  • Anxiety and Mood. Feelings of overwhelm, loss of what feels meaningful, perfectionism, feeling blue or, alternatively, feeling nothing at all.

  • Career Concerns. Work-life balance, including feeling desire to become more embodied in your career of choice.

Couples Therapy

Areas of speciality and interest for couples therapy:

  • Communication Issues. come to an environment of deeper emotional understanding and intimacy, particularly after emotional injury or distance.

  • Parenting dynamics. Process emotions involved in parenting and the impacts on the changing relationship with your partner.

  • Transitions. Address feelings about whether to have or not to have children, impact of retirement on couples, family care.

  • Multi-heritage couples. Address the unique stressors facing culturally blended couples.

Consultation

I provide clinical consultation for therapists and therapists-in-training who are interested in developing a deeper understanding of psychodynamic therapy. I offer these services both through my individual practice and in conjunction with my colleague, Ali Kimmell, LCSW. More about our work together can be found here. My belief is that the way identities are held, responded to and reflected in the cultural surround is an impactful and meaningful relationship that informs psychological development and interpersonal realities. It is my belief that this trifecta of considerations: socio-cultural awareness, emotional histories and psychological development, provides a lens with which to provide effective treatment.

Reading Group

I lead a weekly reading group called The Children’s Hour: Psychoanalytic Reading Group in which we read children’s stories paired with a relevant psychoanalytic reading. In this group, we hold as a premise that children’s stories are reflective of and speaking to psychoanalytic developmental concepts. The group asks questions and gets creative together about object permanence, grief, magical thinking and, of course, where the wild things are. If you are interested, please inquire about openings.
